Arik Gilbert Enters Transfer Portal

Freshman standout tight end Arik Gilbert is officially entering the NCAA Transfer Portal following the LSU regular season’s conclusion. The announcement ends weeks of rumors that the 6-foot-5 tight end would enter the portal after deciding to opt-out of the regular season.

According to a report from 247Sports and the Athletic, Gilbert wants to play elsewhere due to homesickness. It was a disappointing season in Baton Rouge as the Tigers ended the season 5-5 as the Tigers finished the regular season with an upset win over Florida.

Gilbert is out Marrietta, Georgia, who was heavily recruited by many of the nation’s power five programs. Georgia was among those programs that recruited the 2020 tight end prospect. Gilbert’s athletic ability to play inside and outside as a receiver and a tight end combination bring flashes of the next great tight end hybrid.

Gilbert finished his freshman season in Baton Rouge with 35 catches for 368 yards and two touchdowns. Gilbert drew a lot of preseason hype as he was named to the preseason All-SEC first team even before taking a snap.

Georgia is seen as a heavy favorite to land the massive, athletic, playmaking tight end. Gilbert stunned the Dawgs when choosing LSU over Georgia and Alabama. This is a rare second chance to land one of the most talented young players in the country
