Breaking News: Smael Mondon Commits to the G!

Georgia strikes gold once again with the announcement of Smael Mondon. Out of Paulding County in Dallas, Georgia, he will be staying home as he is committed to the University of Georgia. A big recruiting win over the likes of Auburn, Florida, LSU, and Tennessee.

Mondon ranks as the 25th best prospect overall and 2nd at outside linebacker in this recruiting class. Mondon brings versatility to Athens as he can play inside linebacker and will likely take snaps at both inside and outside linebacker for the Dawgs.

Mondon is 6’3 220 pounds with the impressive length for a linebacker, who has a lot of room to grow in muscle mass, as his frame will fill out with a college-level strength and conditioning program.

He does well to drop back in coverage at inside linebacker and try to make a play on the ball in coverage by positioning himself where the quarterback wants to go. Coming off the edge is where his athleticism shows as he has a quick burst that helps him run right past offensive tackles. He brings the heat in the open field as a reliable and hard tackler.

With his quick burst of athleticism and speed, Mondon has shown the ability to stop the run and be successful in pursuing a running back. He rushes the passer from anywhere on the field, which makes him dangerous.

Being a two-sport athlete makes him an even better player as he can use his track speed to make plays on the field.

Mondon will bring athleticism and pure talent to both of the linebacker positions and be a weapon for Dan Lanning to use on campus. Add Mondon as the newest five-star recruit to join the Georgia 2021 recruiting class.
