Georgia Suffers Multiple Injuries After Kentucky - Including Richard LeCounte's Off-Field Accident

A spooky afternoon in Kentucky as the Georgia Bulldogs escaped from Kroger Field with a 14-3 win over the Wildcats. The success was one that felt very much like a loss for the Dawgs because of the performance as a whole and the multiple injuries that were dealt with by the Dawgs.

Just a week before an SEC East division title decider with the Florida Gators, Georgia was dealt major blows in the injury department. Even before the game, the Dawgs were without starting receiver George Pickens, who did not travel with the team due to an upper-body injury. Kenny McIntosh also did not make the trip for Georgia as he was dealing with a knee injury that knocked him out of the Alabama game two weeks ago.

Add in DJ Daniel battling a foot injury and Monty Rice with a foot injury, and the Dawgs are already being stretched thin in multiple vital positions. Daniels did not play in Saturday’s game against the Wildcats, while Rice continued to play through the lingering foot injury.

Starting nose tackle Jordan Davis left the game with an upper-body injury. Jordan was shown on television on the sidelines with a sling on his arm, only leading to further speculation about Davis’s injury’s seriousness.

To add further insult to injury, Julian Rochester left the game with a knee injury. This is Rochester’s first full season since dealing with a knee injury that kept him sidelined for the majority of last season.

The loss of both starting nose tackles is a massive loss for Georgia. Both players are arguably unreplaceable as they bring so much in terms of the ability to shut down opponents’ run games.

Starting safety, Lewis Cine went down in the first half with an ankle injury. Cine, the partner of senior safety Richard LeCounte, did not return to the game after being taken off the field Saturday.

With Monty Rice already being banged up as a starting inside linebacker, it was a position that Georgia could not afford to lose another guy. This is why Quay Walker’s upper-body injury seems to be one that could add on to the losses already suffered to the Georgia rush defense.

Both nose tackles and inside linebackers play a valuable role in the Georgia defense against the run.

Add on the injury to dynamic defensive back Tyrique Stevenson, and it was a rough day at the office for the Georgia defense. Multiple starters went down Saturday in Lexington, and the status for Jacksonville is up in the air.

But those on-field injuries would not be the ending of the Georgia medical staff’s day. As senior safety Richard LeCounte was involved in a motorcycle accident Saturday evening. It has been reported that LeCounte suffered a concussion and a bruised rib.

LeCounte’s injury is a big blow to a very talented Georgia defense. LeCounte is an unquestioned leader on the field as he racked up 13 tackles on Saturday and a fumble recovery for the Dawgs.

Getting back to health will be a theme this week for the Dawgs as they prepare for the World’s Largest Cocktail Party with the Florida Gators. The winner Saturday will likely set a date with the Alabama Crimson Tide in Atlanta for the SEC Championship.
